Are you getting ready to go on holiday? As you’ll be clearing out the fridge anyway, this is the perfect time to give it a deep clean before you leave.
Amanda Lewis from Elbow Grease® is here with some top tips and product recommendations so you can leave your fridge spick and span before you jet.
- Empty
Pre-holiday is the ideal time to clean your fridge because you need to clear out most of the food anyway. Once you empty items from the fridge remember that bacteria is now starting to multiply so keep items that are going back in cool. Some items, like certain cheeses, will last while you are away but it might be sensible to put them in a container.
- Organise
This is a great time to think about how you want your fridge to be organised post-holiday. Consider any containers you need to buy to better organise your fridge or any labels so everyone in the household knows the contents.
- Shelves and drawers
Once the fridge is empty, start the cleaning process by removing the salad drawers and shelves. Pre-fill a bowl with hot water and washing up liquid to get them squeaky clean. If any shelves can’t be removed, wipe them down with water and washing up liquid as well.
- Inside and out
Now clean the interior with warm water making sure to get into any grooves and ridges – toothpicks and cotton wool buds can be handy for any tricky places where dirt has built up. Make sure you dry the inside thoroughly with a dry cloth or paper towels. Don’t forget to thoroughly wipe down the outside of your fridge as well.
- Apply some elbow grease…
Last but not least, enlist the help of some extra Elbow Grease! Try Elbow GreaseÒ Concentrated Vinegar, (£1.49 from Home Bargains), which is great for removing stains and cutting through dirt and grime. Deodorise and clean with Elbow GreaseÒ Bicarbonate of Soda, (£1.49 The Range), which can be added to the vinegar to really bring back the shine.
