Two exhausted swimmers sought refuge aboard an anchored yacht and were collected by Eastbourne’s inshore lifeboat this afternoon.
The two female swimmers, having set out from the popular Holywell pleasure beach earlier, found that they had been carried too far offshore and were unable to make headway back to the beach against the tide. Fortunately for them, a local businessman had anchored his yacht in the Cow Gap area and was enjoying some recreational angling. The frightened girls had no option than to make their way to the yacht where they were taken aboard by the MD of a local plumping wholesale company. Dover Coastguard was informed and Eastbourne’s inshore lifeboat was launched to collect the girls and return them to the beach, shaken but otherwise unharmed.
