Respected historian Dorothy Sheridan, MBE and Honorary Professor of History at the University of Sussex, today presented award winning Brighton based community publishers QueenSpark Books with an unexpected windfall to support the organisation’s good work.

Dorothy Sheridan, for many years the archivist and Director of the Mass Observation Archive at the University of Sussex, surprised QueenSpark Books with an unexpected donation of £1,000 which will boost project funds and help further the organisation’s work in the community. Professor Sheridan said ‘I’ve got an enduring passion for Queenspark Books. It’s a real community initiative and has been hugely important in recording the memories and histories of the people of Brighton and Hove. It is a unique organisation and I hope my donation helps to support its inspiring work’. Now that she has retired from the Mass Observation Archive, Dorothy plans to work more closely with QueenSpark Books.

QueenSpark Books, who celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2012, as the longest community run book publishers in the country, expressed its thanks and pleasure at this support and presented Professor Sheridan, a nationally respected author and academic with a copy of its latest publication ‘Backstage Brighton’, a book celebrating the rich history of theatres in Brighton and Hove as an expression of gratitude. (See picture above, featuring Professor Sheridan and QueenSpark’s Creative and Marketing Director, Sarah Hutchings). QueenSpark will be organising a series of big events to commemorate their 40th year throughout 2012. (Lookout for publicity).
QueenSpark Books is keen to attract new Patrons and is always looking for donations to help continue its work in the community.
