The soldier stands alone, the battlefield strewn with bodies. The sound of the wounded and dying echoing all around him. Only now does he realise the weight of his sword, and the cool chain mail pressing into his skin. Gasping for breath, he raises his eyes and sees the thousands of men, just like him, gasping for breath. After the deafening crashes of swords and shields subsides, he begins to hear the collective roar of celebratory shouts and the thunder of boots marching as the mass of men head off the field after the battle.
