As this is the season of Christmas joy, my GG Column gives you two new carols
in poetry form unpublished – these are copyright
Hear the Carol Singers Sing
Gather the berries from the holly,
reap the harvest of Christmastide.
for it is the season to be jolly,
great happiness we cannot hide.
Hear the carol singers sing,
standing there side by side.
Though the frosty still night bring,
upturned faces filled with pride.
Hear the carol singers sing,
they are telling us a story.
Telling us of the heavenly King,
surrounded by prayer, love and glory.
Shepherds with their flock attend
to guard this lonely stable.
As from the Inn they send,
no bed, no chair, no table.
Born in this lowly cattle shed,
a Princely child first cried.
When three strangers travel sped,
with weary feet, were sorely tired.
There they stood, these three wise men,
with Incense, Myrrh and gold.
Large bright star began to open,
as petals on a flower unfold.
There they knelt and prayed till dawn,
the animals stood around.
Praising the King that had been born,
in Bethlehem the Holy town.
Mary cradled the baby in her arms,
joyful wonderment in her eyes.
Wife of Joseph blessed with charms,
This would be the world’s surprise.
Hear the carol singers sing,
a story they record.
Glad tidings the bells that ring,
the story of our Lord!

Ring Out The Christmas Bell
Rejoice, sing the praises of the Lord,
listen to the word he doth tell.
Raise from the rock, the honoured sword,
ring out the Christmas bell.
Gather the logs for a winter’s fire,
fetch the water from the well.
Shelter the Saviour, Prince and Sire,
ring out the Christmas bell.
Place your heart upon the cross,
cage not the prisoner’s cell.
Show mercy for one of remorse,
ring out the Christmas bell.
You are welcome, said the host,
to this place, in which I dwell.
Comfort our lives oh Holy Ghost,
ring out the Christmas bell.
Ashes from a dying ember,
kindled the wood where it fell.
The Lord’s birthday, we always remember,
ring out the Christmas bell.
