The plays’ the thing at Hastings Castle

Hastings Castle will be transformed into ancient Athens for an outdoor performance of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ later this year.

The castle ruins are playing host to Chapterhouse Theatre Productions who will be staging one of Shakespeare’s best-loved romantic comedies on Sunday, September 4th.

This year marks the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death and in honour of this Chapterhouse is touring their own special reimagining of the hugely popular play.

Beautifully designed Elizabethan costumes, a wonderful new musical score and enchanting woodland creatures go to make this an unmissable garden theatre experience.

“The castle’s beautiful elevated location and rich history will provide a fabulous backdrop to the performance,” said Hastings Castle’s Leanna Lawson.

“In recent years the castle has played host to everything from marching bands to weddings so this will add another exciting chapter in the castle’s recent history.

“We’re hoping for fine weather and audience members are invited to bring their own picnics to enjoy the ultimate al fresco experience!” she added.

With its stunning views across the town and out to sea Hastings Castle is forever linked with the most famous date in English history 1066.

Visitors can walk around the ruins of Hastings Castle and explore the cloistered chapel, the East Gate and the Chapter House.
