Simon Kirby, Member of Parliament for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven, has welcomed Brighton & Hove City Council’s decision to proceed with formal listed building enforcement proceedings regarding St Aubyns Chapel in Rottingdean which is a Grade II listed building.
A number of planning applications have been submitted in regards to the site and are currently under consideration.
Brighton & Hove Council have said that regardless of the planning applications, the restoration of the chapel back to its former condition and character is required to protect and preserve the listed building. They have advised that they intend to proceed with formal listed building enforcement proceedings in the form of a listed building enforcement notice in order to secure the restoration of the chapel and the re-instatement of the removed artefacts.
Simon said, “I contacted the council on behalf of the SAFE (St Aubyns Field Evergreen) group and many local residents who are concerned about how this listed building has been allowed to deteriorate and also about the fact that some of the artefacts have been removed.”
“I am pleased that the council are proceeding with formal listed building enforcement proceedings and will be keeping a close eye on the situation.”
