How is it that the local Councils can afford to mount a surveillance operation spying on the public for a period of five years? This had our Government’s blessings as they were the governing body that organised and sanctioned some councils to become “Big Brothers,” something unheard of in the United Kingdom or is it?
I know that Eastbourne is spied upon mostly in the summer months when planes circle over areas of the town, mostly the outlaying estates to take aerial photographs of gardens to see if there are buildings they don’t know about. Five years of spying on the public who walk their dogs and fly tippers seems to be excessive when there are other means at hand.
The Council Tax is divided into separate categories and I am certain that the local police get a large share and I know that each County have special agents who mount surveillance equipment to catch persons who break the law by fly tipping. As for persons who allow their dogs to do their business on paths and other areas where maybe children might inhabit, and who don’t clean up the mess they should be fined £1,000 or go to prison for a year. Harsh sentences are needed so the perpetrators don’t do it again.
Obviously I am getting away from the point I need to make clear to the public – that breaking the law can lead to councils making decisions to spend more money on these sort of exercises to catch the criminals instead of repairing the roads and pavements to make counties safer as I gather from our own local Conservative Member of Parliament’s manifesto in Eastbourne the first consideration was the safety of everything that was a danger to the public which hasn’t materialised because of lack monies. Over a year and nothing has really been done in connection with this vital issue of safety.
Some people would say I am biased because I support the Lib-Dem party and I was asked at one time to give the Conservative MP a chance “and wait and see!” I have waited over a year and still nothing has been done to make Eastbourne safe.
Building “White Elephants” are not the answer – building something tangible might change my mind, although I doubt it going by the history of Conservative ruling in Eastbourne.
If you want something to be done – ask a Lib-Dem!
