Eastbourne audiences are to be given the opportunity to see a new, passionate wartime thriller, Lotty’s War prior to its West End run, when the show comes to the Devonshire Park Theatre from Monday 22nd until Saturday 27th September.
A star cast, which includes Olivia Hallinan (Larkrise to Candleford, Sugar Rush and Girls in Love), Mark Letheren (The Bill, Casualty, Wire in the Blood) and Adam Gillen (Benidorm, Fresh Meat, Prisoners Wives), tell this mesmerising story of passion, courage and sacrifice.
Set in Nazi occupied Guernsey, an often overlooked part of World War II’s history, we follow the story of 17 year old Lotty, whose mother and sister have fled for mainland UK before the occupation. Guernsey is attacked and her father is killed, the last boat for England has gone leaving Lotty and her childhood friend Ben behind.
Alone in her family home, which is taken over by the imposing Nazi General Major Rolf Bernburg, Lotty finds herself in an unexpected situation. Housed in close quarters with the enemy Lotty encounters a struggle between her loyalty to the island and the temptations of forbidden love, does she dare to tread a passionate and dangerous path?
Based on unpublished diaries found in Guernsey, this critically acclaimed play comes to the stage in its first major UK tour, directed by Bruce Guthrie, written by Giuliano Crispini with dramaturgy by Clare Slater.
