Eastbourne RNLI’s inshore lifeboat today went to the assistance of a visiting yacht which had suffered engine failure on the final approaches to Sovereign Harbour
The skipper of the visiting 26ft yacht radioed Dover Coastguard this afternoon at approx 3pm to inform them that he was unable to start the engine of his yacht on the final approaches to Sovereign Harbour. The emergency services stood by until it became obvious that the crew of the stricken vessel was unable to solve their problem. Eastbourne’s inshore lifeboat (ILB) was launched to assist. Swiftly on scene, volunteer crewman Alex Emberley was put aboard the casualty vessel to rig a towline, the vessel was then towed into the safety of the marina locks where it was met by harbour personnel.
