The brilliant Zippos Circus, which was voted “Britain’s Best Circus” in 2013 and again in 2014, is back with a brand-new 2015 show, and they’ve called it OMG! It has earned this title for a very good reason – it’s so brilliant you’ll be shouting it out!
This year’s sparkling production features world-renowned musical clowns the Rastellis, the beautiful horses and High School riding of Summer, elegance on the amazing aerial umbrella from Stefanie, together with human-pyramid acrobats, the Zulu Warriors, and Mongolian Odka, who fires a bow and arrow with her feet as she balances on her hands!
Another hand-balancer, Kremena, was a gold medal-winning gymnast for her native Bulgaria before turning her talents to the sawdust ring and handsome and daring Salvatore will make hearts beat faster as he flies high above the ring on chains. The climax of the show is the nerve-tingling motorcycle Globe of Terror, with four bikers racing horizontally inside the tiny space while – seen here for the first time – the Globe splits open as they ride!
The World’s Greatest Ringmaster, Norman Barrett MBE, also trains and presents his much-loved budgies in an act seen recently on television’s “Sunday Night at the London Palladium”.
Star clowns the Rastellis have won top awards all over the world and historians have traced the roots of the Rastelli family back to the 17th century. The family took to clowning in the 1920’s, at which point Enrico Rastelli became the world’s cleverest and most famous juggler with, later in the last century, Oreste Rastelli, turning down a promising career as a classical pianist to follow the family’s comedy tradition as a clown.
Zippo’s Circus has tempted the current generation to make their first British appearance for over thirty years. In the musical routine they’ve perfected, Oreste is joined by his brother Vittorio and sister-in-law Hajni, and audiences also love the brothers’ take on the classic “broken mirror” routine.
Zippo’s Circus appears at Hove Lawns, by the King Alfred Leisure Centre, from Thursday 20th August to Tuesday 1st September. Tickets are available from the circus box office, open on site daily, or you can book in advance on 0871 210 2100.
