Opera Double Bill Appears in Tunbridge Wells

Opera & Ballet International proudly presents Ellen Kent’s production of Die Fledermaus at the Assembly Hall Theatre, Tunbridge Wells, on Friday 9th October and her production of Carmen on Saturday 10th October, with both performances starting at 7.30pm.

On Friday, Ellen Kent’s critically acclaimed Die Fledermaus returns after its world premiere in 2006. This unique version includes two champagne fountains, two bats, a mystery celebrity guest and an introduction of some scenes from the Russian Die Fledermaus which are unique to this production.

Strauss’s light-hearted opera set in late 19th century Vienna combines a cast of colourful characters with some of opera’s most popular musical moments in a story of love, laughter and sweet revenge. Based on the Herbert von Karajan’s famous version, the opera, quite unusually, contains snatches of spoken dialogue. Die Fledermaus will be sung in English.

Then, on Saturday, Seville comes to Tunbridge Wells with the hottest ticket in town, when one of the most famous and seductive operas of all time, Bizet’s irresistibly emotional Carmen, guarantees an evening of passion and romance.

This dazzling production features Bizet’s unforgettable melodies including the best known baritone aria of all, The Toreador’s Song. Carmen also includes a replica of Seville’s main square with fountains, flowers and orange trees and features a rescue donkey in the opening scene and Caspian, a majestic white Andalucian stallion in the final act. The opera is sung in French with English surtitles.

Tickets from £31 – £36, with concessions available, can be booked through the box office on 01892 530613 or online at www.assemblyhalltheatre.co.uk
