Audiences won’t need to practice their poker faces at the new production of Patrick Marber’s darkly comic Dealers Choice which is at the Devonshire Park Theatre, Eastbourne from Tuesday 29th to Thursday 31st March.
This new production stars Neil Roberts (Emmerdale), David Keyes (Pirates of the Caribbean) and Griffin Stevens (Glue) in an emotive play which is about so much more than a poker game, the tension builds deliciously as the cards come tumbling down.
Dealer’s Choice is set against an evening around the card table and the group of men who meet there each week, until a new player joins the fold. Beautifully written, Funny, meticulously crafted and wonderfully imaginative Dealers Choice is an exploration of the endless power play between fathers and sons, winners and losers, made men and ambitious outsiders.
Stephen’s restaurant is a haven of petty gamblers and ineffectual dreamers, until it is threatened by the shady machinations of Ash and the underworld. As events unfold, debts increase, the stakes get higher and someone has to cough up for the bill…
The play enjoyed a revival in 2007 which saw it transfer to the West End to great critical acclaim, with Dominic Cavendish calling it; ‘Drama that was as good as it gets’.
Starring Neil Roberts who last appeared at the Devonshire Park in 2011 in Who Killed Agatha Christie, his many other leading stage roles include Mamma Mia in the West End and the tour of The Sound of Music, television roles in; Family Affairs, Coronation Street, New Tricks, Doctors, Holby City as the cardiothoracic specialist Philip Lawlor and most recently Emmerdale.
Joining Neil is David Keyes whose previous credits include films Pirates of the Caribbean, The Wolfman, the lead role in Low and Blitz opposite Jason Statham as well as ITV’s Prime Suspect, BBC period drama Fingersmith and Holby City.
