The West Sussex Waste team is reminding all residents to recycle packaging over the Easter Weekend.
All of the packaging from Easter eggs, bunnies or selection boxes can be recycled.
Foil, plastic and cardboard can be put in recycling bins if they are clean, dry and loose.
David Barling, Cabinet Member for Residents’ Services, said: “This is the second year that we have been able to recycle moulded plastic items, which will help reduce our impact on the environment.”
46 tonnes of foil have been recycled throughout the county in the last year – which laid flat would cover 28,500 miles.
David added: “It is fantastic that we have recycled so much foil in West Sussex, but there is still much more we all could be doing. Foil can be rinsed clean and put into the recycling bin, alongside any other items of packaging.”
Creating foil from recycled foil only uses five per cent of the energy compared to producing brand new aluminium.
Recycled plastics can be made into new products such as fleeces, pillows or new plastic bottles.
