Simon Kirby, the Member of Parliament for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven, has expressed his delight at the news that the Meadow Vale development appeal has been dismissed by the Planning Inspectorate.
The application to build 85 homes on greenfield land between Ovingdean, Rottingdean and Woodingdean in Brighton was rejected by Brighton & Hove City Council’s planning committee but the developers, Lightwood Strategic, appealed the decision.
Alongside residents and the Save our Deans group, the Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven MP has been vociferously opposing the proposed development at this site, organising a petition of local residents, speaking at public meetings, repeatedly lobbying the council and also writing to the Minister of State for Housing and Planning, Brandon Lewis MP, on behalf of local residents regarding the application.
Simon said, “I have always been consistent that any new development in the city should be on brownfield and city centre land rather than greenfield sites such as Meadow Vale.
“I have been contacted by thousands of my constituents with their very real concerns about this development and alongside local residents I am absolutely delighted that the Planning Inspectorate has decided to dismiss the appeal.”
