Primary school children from across the borough have taken part in a Safety in Action event at Bohemia Road Fire station this week (11- 15 July)
This partnership project co-ordinated by East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was funded by East Sussex County Council Public Health, the Safer Hastings Partnership and Hastings Lions Club.
Cllr Warren Davies, Hastings Borough Council’s lead member for environment and safety attended the event. He said: “It was great to see so many schools taking the opportunity to attend this very informative local event. The aim was to teach children aged 10-11 years, how to deal with or avoid life threatening situations”.
“Different scenarios were set up and pupils were able to participate and learn from the group activities, including how to make a call to the emergency services and what information they need to make that call and safety issues around water and railways”.
“We would like to thank all the agencies, sponsors and volunteers that have worked together at this event to teach our children important lessons about keeping safe.”
Agencies delivering the scenarios included East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, Sussex Police, South East Coast Ambulance Service, Hastings Voluntary Lifeguards, Southern Rail, Hastings Borough Council and UK Power networks.
