The cast of Calamity Jane found themselves ‘horsing around’ when they had a photoshoot with seven year old pinto skewbold cob, Dylan.
Lieutentant Danny Gilmartin played by Mayor of Newhaven, Councillor Steve Saunders, found himself on the back of a horse for the first time in many years, but as Dylan’s expression showed, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Award-winning vocalists Donna Bull (Calamity Jane) and Gemma Albrow (Katie Brown) fussed Dylan throughout, treating him to apples and carrots at his South Heighton stables. Dylan’s owner Angela Cole, watched on as her cheeky horse laughed throughout the experience.
The role made iconic by Howard Keel – Wild Bill Hickok – will be played by top Brighton cabaret singer, Jack West.
The show has been directed by the founder of the theatre’s 90 strong junior section SMTJ, Paula Woolven, who said; “They say not to work with animals or children. I’ve worked with both this week and it’s been fantastic! What do sayings know?!”
