If You Want To Know Who We Are?

The Eastbourne Gilbert & Sullivan Society have just completed their contract with the Entertainment Council for four weeks in August singing every Monday.  The Society used to perform for eight weeks July and August, but the Council had reduced the number of weeks for the Society to perform because of lack of audiences, but to be fair to the Society the Council didn’t advertise the Company in any shape or form.

It seems to be the opinion of many inhabitant of Eastbourne that “Tribute Shows” are the “IN THING!” and the reason that people are talking about them is because they are advertised through all the medias at the Council’s fingertips.  If Eastbourne G & S Society had the same backing from Eastbourne Entertainment I’m sure they would get better audiences.

The strumming of a guitar and a roll of drums is not everyone’s cup of tea and especially if trying to listen to someone shouting into a microphone so much that you can’t hear the words distinctly is not my idea of fun.  Don’t get me wrong, one of my pastimes was being a sort of Disc Jockey putting on shows and doing gigs with the latest songs of that era, which since knowing it has made my wife wince with embarrassment.

The followers of Gilbert & Sullivan have been supportive with the Society’s Productions at the Devonshire Park Theatre, Eastbourne every year.  I understand that the society are going to perform again at the Theatre with their production “The Mikado” in May 2017.
