On Wednesday 16th August 2017, Field Place Manor House played host to an Active Aged 50+ Live Well Worthing afternoon.
The free event, which was primarily aimed at bringing an afternoon of fun for the over 50’s, especially those affected by dementia and their support networks, was hosted by South Downs Leisure at the picturesque venue in The Boulevard, but was put on in partnership with the Worthing Dementia Action Alliance; including the Alzheimer’s Society, Guildcare and many other organisations.
The event was opened by the current Mayor of Worthing, Councilor Alex Harman, who thanked everyone for attending and supporting the event, especially as the Alzheimer’s Society is one of his chosen charities.
Activities throughout the afternoon included sessions of tennis, pilates, bowls, Tai Chi and Petanque with qualified instructors, as well as Wellbeing MOT’s with the NHS, and hearing tests with Audiology and more. There were also sessions for everyone to get involved with from the Coastal Prevention Assessment Team, who are health professionals that could discuss individual health needs and recommend or signpost other services.
Organiser of the event, Sally Honey, commented: “It was amazing to see the community come together on such a sunny day and also the fabulous support from the Mayor, our town crier and the Dementia Action Alliance. Thank you to everyone that attended and to everyone that made the day such a huge success.”
Tim Wilkins from Alzheimer’s Society went on to say “The day went really well and the support of South Downs Leisure was brilliant. This is the first event of this kind in the area and it has gone fantastically well. We are already looking forward to putting in another event.”
