On Tuesday June 5, 2018, Chessington World of Adventures Resort aired the second episode of ‘Penguin Love Island’ – their take on the popular ITV2 show – that follows the relationships of its resident Humboldt penguins, which are said to mate for life.
PLUS, as his daughter graces the latest real-life series and following a visit to the Surrey Resort over the weekend, actor Danny Dyer narrates an exclusive ‘Penguin Love Island’ episode, stepping into Iain Stirling’s shoes as the voice of Chessington’s very own reality show.
Danny, said of his experience: “I do love a penguin me. So when me and the kids was feeding them at Chessington I couldn’t help but get involved in all the capers. Beautiful!”
The concept for the four-part mini-series was born when Zoo Keepers at Chessington noticed their colony of Humboldt penguins form new relationships at the start of the mating season, which seemed surprising for an animal that ordinarily mates for life. Taking inspiration from Love Island, the Keepers began to document the ‘goings on’ at Penguin Bay, following seven of the birds – Raymi, Chira, Juanito, Chakana, Atol, Cooper and Earl – as they coupled up with new mates.
Lisa Britton, Assistant Zoo Manager at Chessington World of Adventures Resort, commented: “I don’t know anyone that isn’t tuning in to this year’s Love Island already; from the moment it airs everyone is hooked by the storylines of the villa and can’t get enough of the drama. That’s exactly how we as a Zoo Team felt when watching our penguins’ behaviour lately and their ‘recoupling’. We are excited to give viewers a window into our very own villa!”
‘Penguin Love Island’ will be streamed on Chessington’s social media channels this week (Facebook – @Chessington, Twitter – @CWOA, Instagram – @chessingtonworldofadventures) with the first episode airing tonight. Who will be the ‘Emperor’ penguin, and who will prove to be nothing more than a melt on the ice?
