Yorkshire Terrier’s New Home Must be ‘Purr’fect this International Cat Day

Dogs Trust pooch makes it clear she needs a feline friend if you adopt her

Bella the six-month-old Yorkshire Terrier came into Dogs Trust Shoreham two weeks ago. As she was such a tender age she went into a foster home whilst she awaited her forever home. What came next was a very unlikely friendship between Bella and the foster family’s little kitten called Millie.

The two of them enjoy playing, snuggling on the sofa and follow each other around the house. The foster family also have a Labrador called Lola but Bella has shown little interest in her! This unusual friendship has meant that the rehoming centre have decided that an essential requirement of Bella’s new home be that she lives with a cat.

Dogs Trust Shoreham’s Rehoming Centre Manager Tracey Rae said: “Bella is a sweet, cheeky character with an active nature. She came into the centre due to a change in her previous owner’s circumstances. “We’ve decided that the happiness she has displayed in her foster home with Millie the kitten means that she must be rehomed with another interactive, playful cat that will enjoy the company of a dog.

“She could potentially live with another dog too but we’re fairly certain they won’t be the centre of her attention!”

Bella’s foster carer Vikki added: “Mostly Bella ignores our dog, but she is smitten with our kitten! The two have become the best of friends and it’s so lovely to watch them together.”

Bella would like her new owners to be around for most of the time initially as she will need time to get to know you and settle in. She loves to be around people and be made a fuss of, she’s an attentive and intelligent girl that will need owners willing to continue with her training. She can live with children over the age of eight.
