I am dismayed by the attitude of the Lib Dem Councillors who manage Huntingdon District Council and as a Senior Citizen myself I find it hard to believe that all of sudden persons who claim Housing Benefit are limited to the amount of money they can save. It seems to me that Senior Citizens have a lot of hidden rules that are not easily explained to the layman or a lady in this case!
I always thought that Huntingdon was famous for the stories of Robin Hood in the form of Lib Dem Councillors who used to rob from the rich and give to the poor – it appears that Huntingdon Liberal Democrats who run their District Council rob the poor and give it to who? It must go somewhere – but the report doesn’t say where the lady’s hard earned money has been returned to – does it?
Those persons who turned up on her doorstep demanding that she owed £12,000 in taxes because she claimed Housing Benefit and that her savings had reached well over the amount allowed really didn’t want to know or listen to the lady about the situation – I think the newspaper reported that their attitude was BRUTAL!
Apparently the Lib Dem Councillors knew about her savings when it reached the amount allowed and therefore they could have stepped in and informed her – but they didn’t! They let the problem become untenable and they punished the said person for something they themselves could have stopped in an amicable way. Now they have robbed her completely and she needs their help to pay the Council Tax and anything else that is necessary for her to survive!
Obviously this was a mistake by the lady in question and I can’t find a copy of the book that informs me of the DO’S and DON’TS you get when you claim HOUSING BENEFIT and I wouldn’t myself, associate my savings with this stupid tax rule which has been put at a ceiling of £16,000 and with this Government’s inflationary expenditure that has risen dramatically it would allow that ceiling to be raised to a more acceptable level.
Not everyone has a computer so they can check on what they are allowed to do and I am not really sure that a recipient looking for anything associated with Government and District Councils would find what they want to know anyway because of the secret society within Government officials of a certain handshake and rolled-up trousers to the halfway mark and jumping off a table would signify or even be interesting to the lay-person!
What with the Television Licence and now this only goes to show that officials like penalising the Pensioners! I wonder what they will do next to make our lives more miserable!
Yes! I have read all the favourable reports of the Lib Dems in Huntingdon that they have worked hard in that area – but it does, by their actions towards one person who lives in Huntingdon DOESN’T PUT THE ICING ON THE CAKE!
