St Catherine’s Hospice Receives Over £17,400 From Gatwick Lawyers

A local hospice has received a bumper donation of more than £17,400 from the local office of Irwin Mitchell, after colleagues at the law firm spent a year raising vital funds to support the work of the charity.

The Crawley based charity was first nominated by Irwin Mitchell’s Gatwick office to be their Charity of the Year for 2019 as part of a nationwide programme developed by the Irwin Mitchell Charities Foundation (IMCF). Established in 1997, IMCF is an independent registered charity set up by the firm which has now donated more than £2 million to third sector organisations.

Irwin Mitchell staff raised just under £420,000 for good causes across the UK in 2019, with the Gatwick team’s £17,400 donation to St Catherine’s Hospice set to make a big difference to the charity’s work.

The funds are set to be a huge boost for St Catherine’s Hospice, who last year cared for more than 2,450 people. The charity performs invaluable work supporting local families in West Sussex and East Surrey, facing one of the most difficult times any family has to face.

Faye Bargery, regional managing partner at Irwin Mitchell’s Gatwick office, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be able to provide this donation to such a fantastic cause within the local community.

Our Charity of the Year initiative has always been something that our people are very passionate about and they worked extremely hard throughout 2019 to ensure we delivered as much as we possibly could for St Catherine’s.

The charity supports those living with terminal illness in addition to those caring for someone or dealing with the loss of someone close. These are services you can’t put a value on and we are proud to be able to play our part in seeing these local services continue.”

Suzanne Davis, Corporate Fundraiser at St Catherine’s said: “We cannot thank the staff at Irwin Mitchell Gatwick enough for all their amazing support this year. Their commitment and dedication to supporting St Catherine’s means that more local people can receive the vital care they need.

The incredible figure they’ve raised will pay for nearly two days of tailored care on our wards; it will allow more families to spend precious time together, our patients to enjoy treats like Jacuzzi baths and massages, eat fresh, home cooked food and enjoy a drink from our drinks trolley, relax with meditation or art, or enjoy the tranquil surroundings of our hospice garden with family and friends.

We know at a time when someone is seriously ill it’s the things like this that make the biggest difference, but we’re only able to provide this to people thanks to the generosity of supporters like Irwin Mitchell Gatwick. We’re thrilled that they’ve chosen to continue supporting St Catherine’s for another year, and we look forward to working with this fantastic team of supporters throughout 2020!”
