One night at the V.E Day Proms Rescheduled to Friday 7 May 2021

Though we find ourselves in an unprecedented situation, we are not the first to face great adversity and those who showed heroism during past hardships and atrocities are still as deserving of acknowledgement and recognition as those on the current frontline.

This Friday 8 May the nation may be celebrating the 75th anniversary of V.E. Day (Victory in Europe) at home rather than taking part in joyous street parties but this won’t stop us remembering. And when we are once again allowed to gather in crowds, the ladies and gentlemen of the London Gala Orchestra will present the ultimate musical celebration One Night at the V.E.Day Proms. Keep hold of those flags and join them at the Congress Theatre, Friday 7 May 2021.

Originally scheduled for 25 April 2020, Sky TV presenter Ian Curran will host this incredible concert, taking you on a musical journey through World War II and providing an insight in to how music played a pivotal role in that extraordinary period in modern day history.

V.E.Day (Victory in Europe Day) celebrates the day the Allies of World War II formally accepted the surrender of Nazi Germany’s armed forces, 7th May 1945. The next day the UK was awash with street parties, dancing and singing, celebrating this momentous and long-hoped for announcement. Huge crowds gathered in London to hear Winston Churchill speak and to see King George VI and his family (our current Queen Elizabeth II included, though then a Princess) appear on the balcony. Churchill marked the day in history by declaring 8 May a British public holiday.

Featuring The London Gala Orchestra and exceptional live singers, One Night at the V.E Day Proms will bring back to life popular war time songs as Vera Lynn’s The White Cliffs of Dover and Glenn Miller’s In The Mood alongside classical masterpieces such as Land of Hope and Glory and Jerusalem.
