We are all time poor – we all have the same 24 hours in a day, but are always rushed off our feet. Even heading to the beauty salon can feel like a chore and that there is simply not enough time to fit it into your routine. However, self-care is so important to feel good, look good and essential for our mental health.
So let me give you some tips on how to get the best from your beauty appointments…
Find a local salon
It can be daunting even deciding where to go. On social media nowadays there are so many beautiful images of lashes, nails and brows, that it can be overwhelming My advice is to look at more than just social media and look locally. The thought of the salon being easy to get to and not taking too much time to travel to and from can be the first challenge sorted! Do they have a website? Have you checked out their Google reviews? Do they have before and after pictures? Have you seen pictures of the salon or their work space? Have they won any awards or list their qualifications? Having a beauty treatment done can sometimes feel scary when going to a new place, so you have to feel that you can trust the company before you visit. You can do this by calling the salon to book your appointment. Any questions you have, ask on the phone and see if there are accommodating and helpful. Maybe they have an online booking system, so was it easy to use and did they follow up for appointment confirmation? There are many ways to build up the trust before even walking through the door. Don’t forget to ask friends and family for recommendations, they will not send you somewhere they didn’t like!
Arrive on time
Arriving just before or on time for your appointment is key to get the most out of your treatment. Most salons will be running back to back, so if you turn up late, your treatment time will get cut – it will finish on time and not run over into the next client’s appointment. Arriving just before or on time is also great so you can fill out the consultation form. Any reputable salon will require you to do this, unless this is sent to you beforehand. If it is sent before, make sure you fill it out before your appointment again to give you more time for your treatment. Some salons might even offer refreshments while you’re waiting to start your relaxation before your treatment.
Quiet time or silent treatments
Since COVID-19, some salons have implemented Quiet Time. This is an opportunity to have a treatment with zero conversation with the therapist or questions asked unless needed during your appointment. Again with the busyness of life, and mental health issues on the rise sometimes we just want to get a treatment done and zone out without having to make small talk. Finding a salon that offers this service is a huge benefit if you feel this type of appointment would suit you.
Patch tests
If you are having treatments such as eyelash extensions, lash lift, brow lamination or brow tint I would strongly recommend the salon offers you a patch test. This should be compulsory for these treatments. I know this is a pain popping into the salon to get this done 48 hours before the treatment, but it is the safest way to have these treatments. Over the years I have seen my fair share of allergic reactions so it’s just not worth risking the five minutes patch test. This also gives you the opportunity to see the salon and meet your therapist before the treatment. Gaining the trust and asking any questions you may have there and then, will give you even more confidence going in for the treatment and getting the most out of the day of your booking.
Be open with your therapist
Beauty therapists have studied for years to get where they are today. During your consultation process always be honest with your therapist about your body, feelings and what you expect from the treatment. In a salon everything is confidential so don’t be worried about opening up. Beauty therapists will be able to help recommend suitable treatments and products to take home, to address whichever issues you’re facing, as well as getting the full benefit of the treatment you are having done.
I hope this helps you decide what salons to visit and what you should expect from your appointments. If you do get stuck finding anywhere we have a salon finder with reputable salons we recommend at https://kgprofessional.com/nearest-lash-artist/
