Eastbourne lifeboat recovers disabled sports-boat

Eastbourne’s all-weather lifeboat went to the aid of a 27ft sports-boat this afternoon after the occupants called for assistance four miles off Sovereign Harbour

Communications were difficult to interpret from the disabled vessel but the rescue coordination centre at Dover Coastguard eventually ascertained that they were in the vicinity of the Sovereign Light Tower. The vessel had suffered a fuel supply problem and being in water too deep to anchor was drifting in the tide. When the ALB arrived on scene crewman Richard Larmour was transferred to the stricken vessel to assist the four occupants with securing a tow line. When all was ready the vessel was taken under tow back to Sovereign Harbour where it was secured alongside the fuel pontoon.
