A team of students from a East-Sussex school are set to wow the crowds at Rye Market this Thursday to raise money for charity and promote a local business.
The pupils from Rye Studio School are springing a surprise flashmob performance on shoppers in a new government scheme which aims to get kids involved in their local communities.
16 year-old music and drama student Sophie McGinness said: “We’ve been rehearsing our routine for a couple of weeks, and we’ve had to organise venues, outfits and charity buckets. I hope the people of Rye will love it.”
Bosses at the Rye Harbour Health Club, who have provided cash for the group’s T-shirts and rehearsal space, said “Its great to see youngsters using their own initiative – we are more than happy to help.”
Gym manager Mike Chapman added: “This will be a big boost to Rye, we are a small community here and I’m sure people will appreciate it. Its great to see the girls working together and I’m sure it will give them a great sense of achievement.”
School head Jo Townsend said: “Students have formed fantastic teams and developed skills in leadership, marketing and advertising as well as fundraising. They have shown resourcefulness, enterprise and creativity in designing projects that will entertain, inform and raise money. I am so proud of each and every student”
The National Citizen Service (NCS) is a government organised scheme to help teenagers develop their business and communication skills in their local areas.
They will be wowing the crowds at Rye Market from 11am.
