The cruiser, with two people on board, got caught up in the fishing gear shortly after 10am. With the gear being firmly anchored to the seabed the cruiser was completely entrapped. Unable to use their VHF radio, they chose to request assistance via mobile telephone. The call was eventually relayed to Dover Coastguard who initiated the rescue. The volunteer ALB crew quickly assembled and were on scene within a few minutes, Second Coxswain Ian Stringer was transferred to the stricken vessel and was able to cut the cruiser free and then retie the fishing gear so that the fisherman didn’t lose his valuable gear. The cruiser was then able to continue its passage and the ALB returned to station.
