“In Touch – Out Of Touch?”

I see the Conservatives are keeping up traditions of having four photographs of the same person in their “Intouch” Newsletter. Also I’m sure the readers will find this fascinating news when they read the front page to learn that this newsletter is produced and delivered by volunteers and not by the taxpayer. So! There you have it in print – the volunteers don’t pay taxes. There are no fresh ideas printed in the “Intouch” newsletter, they are same ideas of the current M.P and his team Newsletter printed a few months back. They have copied and printed the same thing.

Am I a hermit or something? These so called champions in Old Town I have never heard of until now and why are they called champions?

There is however a new local survey apparently, but none of the headings are recognised by me as being new and the one heading that they have printed is WELFARE REFORM which covers quite an area. If it could be more explicit, it would be of some use and like the other subject headings, there is not enough information to be able to make an honest answer.

Be warned, if the Conservatives get in in Eastbourne there is every possible chance they will close down some municipal building that you use. Last time they were in power they closed down the OLD TOWN LIBRARY. It is now run by the Old Town residents.

According to bona fide resources, our top man can afford to pay £12,000 for a table at a special “BALL FOR BILLIONAIRES & MILLIONAIRES” in 2013. It has now come to light that the Conservative Party received a sizeable amount of money out of this running into millions and by all accounts these same people who give sizeable amounts of money are given a tax cut whilst you and me (the poor and needy) have to pay a little extra to feed GREEDY PEOPLE who act like SCROOGES in the 21st Century. It is an unfair world by CONSERVATIVE STANDARDS – We don’t need you, you don’t play fair.

EASTBOURNE BOROUGH COUNCIL BLUNDER!

EASTBOURNE BOROUGH COUNCIL have given the go-ahead for Sainsbury’s to open ANOTHER Store. Our countryside is peppered with SUPER STORES. It appears that if you grease a palm with silver ESCC can make obstacles disappear. But if you are a shop in SOUTH STREET – you can’t have a metal shutter to protect your business from vandals. (Referring back to the GG Column 27th April 2014 “Not On This Planet”) ‘By East Sussex County Council standards South Street is supposed to be considered as Edwardian or Victorian, and this is being the excuse for ESCC not allowing owners of shops being able to make their businesses safe from vandalism, even though there is now a (new) bus route going down South Street.’

Personally I’m rather disappointed with EBC – I thought they were different from the usual run of the mill kind of people, but then money always talks to GREEDY PEOPLE and to hell with what the populace think. The trouble with authorities, they like to ruin the environment by placing another SUPER STORE where nobody wants one and what’s more in a shopping street where everything is catered for. There is nothing more pleasing than to go in a specialised shop to buy a newspaper, magazine or a packet of fags (I don’t smoke) or the local Butcher’s where you can buy parcels of meat that you can rely upon to be good to taste or the local Bakery where you can get fresh bread baked on the premises.

The CO-OP STORE is enough to fill in the other gaps and gives excellent choices at a sensible price, so why has the EASTBOURNE BOROUGH COUNCIL given SAINSBURY’S a passport to ruin other people’s livelihood? Obviously they do not care about the people in EASTBOURNE, ONLY THEMSELVES!

It is also obvious that the EASTBOURNE BOROUGH COUNCIL have short memories regarding the placing of SUPER STORES in EASTBOURNE. Have they bothered to visit SEASIDE ROAD & SEASIDE lately and seen the many empty shops, it is just a shell of a place and in a few years time OLD TOWN will be just like that. Businesses will move out of town and the tourist trade will flop.

All you COUNCILLORS will only have these super stores to look at and as you all stand in front of your fires at home on a winter’s night, sticking out your chests with pride and with thoughts running through your minds “ANOTHER TOWN I’VE RUINED.” (and as the ASDA ADVERT) you will be slapping your back pockets, making sure your fat wallet is still there. (And thinking every little counts).

What with the ridiculous parking restrictions and the high costs involved in parking a car and for just two hours, it just makes you wonder how many Councillors escaped from the Loony Bin?

NHS BOSSES

I despair at the latest reports when the NHS CEO’s and their committee members still insist on splitting two hospitals in half. All the charity work that different organisations have done to pump fresh money into EASTBOURNE DGH on different projects has been discounted by those powers that are in charge of the hospital. Surely a hospital’s function is to save lives, not endanger them. We have had several births in cars and secretly (or not too secretly) a fatality on the way to an unspecified hospital, which had been hushed up by the local newspapers to save people’s feelings or didn’t want the public to know about its failings to save life

Supposing a mother-to-be has a nasty fall down five steps at home and lives opposite Eastbourne DGH? Complications set in and because Eastbourne has not got the expertise anymore or the staff, that poor mother-to-be has to be transferred to Conquest Hospital in an ambulance for EIGHTEEN MILES to HASTINGS on roads that are shamefully dangerous and renowned for heavy traffic jams at any time of the day. Doesn’t really paint a good picture, does it? What if the mother succumbs to the jolting along the roads and dies and the baby does not survive either! How different will the hospital staff feel about the decisions that NHS BOSSES have made!

My mother who is 101 years old and hopefully will reach 102 has explicitly given me instructions not to send her to hospital and in her own words stated it was unsafe to do so! Having had a fall at the Care Home a couple of years ago cured her of wanting to ever go to Eastbourne DGH, having to wait in a draughty corridor for an hour and a half and then having to wait another four hours before someone deemed to tend to her needs. I was not impressed with their standards. The excuse I received when making enquiries was “Everyone has to wait four hours” I found the excuse unacceptable, but I want to point out that it isn’t the Nurses or the Doctors fault, it was purely the administration that had been their one and only guideline that had been set up by the current administrator at that time and it wasn’t working for the patient. I just hope it has changed for the patient’s sake.

One good thing, at least the Councillors have something in common with the NHS Bosses, they all sit on their brains!

Shipwrecked on an Island

In place of a ship, make that a Church. The Central Methodist Church to be precise. A Councillor from ESCC came to this Church for a special service a few years ago and shortly afterwards ordered that vertical yellow lines be placed over the double yellow lines around the Church, thereby signifying that no stopping to allow people to enter the Church.   The two main doors to the Church are located where the yellow lines have been placed. This has made it impossible for members of the Church who have a walking disability. They have been penalised for wanting to attend their Church for prayer and thanksgiving and are having to walk a bit further to gain access. What on earth made this so-called Councillor come up with such a stupid idea, knowing full well that the main doors are in those two roads, Susans Road and Langney Road.
