The Pirates of Penzance invade Arundel Wetland Centre on Sat 6 Sept as part of a musical evening with Opera Comique. The group of Gilbert & Sullivan enthusiasts will sing “Trial by Jury” and excerpts from “Pirates of Penzance” during a fundraising concert for the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust.
The Sussex Newspaper is told the concert will be held Saturday 6 September in the main gallery at Arundel Wetland Centre. Tickets cost £8 per person. Seating is at 6:30 and the show begins at 7 pm. Call WWT Arundel Wetland Centre on 01903 881530 to book tickets.
Opera Comique was formed in Portsmouth as a charitable trust and has raised many thousands of pounds for numerous local and national causes since it was formed in 1976. Opera Comique’s personnel are all experienced Gilbert and Sullivan enthusiasts drawn from a wide area of the South of England and perform together several times each year. They last performed at Arundel Wetland Centre in 2012.
The choice of the Arundel Wetland Centre as the concert continues Opera Comique’s tradition of performing in unusual venues. The group performed HMS Pinafore and the Pirates of Penzance on board the ships HMS Victory, HMS Warrior 1860 and TS Foudroyant. The Gilbert and Sullivan enthusiasts have also done shows in Portchester and Southsea Castles and in the Guildhall in London.
