The search is on for Britain’s National Bird – it’s a chance for people in West Sussex to vote for their favourite bird.
David Lindo, also known as The Urban Birder, is a TV presenter, broadcaster, writer and naturalist. David recently launched the search for the nation’s favourite bird.
The last time the country chose its national bird was back in the 1960s when the robin won the vote. But now it’s a chance for some of our other wonderful birds, from the Mute Swan to the Mallard, from the Gannet to the Golden Eagle, from the Waxwing to the Wren to fight it out for the title of Britain’s National Bird.
The vote takes place in two stages:
- People vote for their six favourite birds from an initial list of 60. The six winning birds go through to the finals. The closing date for voting is 30th
- In January 2015 the six finalists are announced, and the nation votes for their favourite – the bird they’d like to see as Britain’s National Bird.
The vote will run alongside the build-up to the general election in May – an alternative election!
The final winner will be announced in May.
Everyone who votes will get a free digital copy of Britain’s biggest selling wild bird magazine ‘Bird Watching’ and be entered into a draw to win a week birding in Shetland courtesy of Shetland Wildlife, a pair of Leica Trinovid binoculars, subscriptions to Bird Watching Magazine and The Urban Birder t-shirts.
