There’s a special treat for dance fans on its way to the Assembly Hall Theatre, Tunbridge Wells and the White Rock Theatre, Hastings this month, as Ballet Theatre UK presents a dazzling re-telling of the exotic classic tale Aladdin, boldly brought to life through the entrancing magic of classical ballet.
The production follows the tale of the lonely orphan whose life is destined for greater things. Tricked by an evil sorcerer, Aladdin sets out on a quest in search for the ultimate treasure. Deceived, Aladdin is left alone in a dark and damp cave to where he will uncover a life changing object…a dusty old lamp.
One of the highlights of this magical show is the stunning wardrobe of beautiful costumes. Daniel Hope, the company’s Costume Designer said, “My favourite costumes in the show are worn in the Cave of Wonders scene, in which dancers portray rare stones and metals such as Rubies, Emeralds and Amethysts. My wardrobe team and I have dedicated hours to deck the costumes in crystals and jewels to create the effect of unbelievable treasures.
Also, the opening market scene is bustling with full and lively colours, vibrant full circle skirts and beaded and bejewelled belly tops that mesh together and encapsulate the steamy heat a moroccan market would have.”
The ballet appears at the Assembly Hall Theatre, Tunbridge Wells on Saturday June 20th (7.30pm) and at the White Rock Theatre, Hastings on Sunday June 28th (2.30pm) where, with just one rub of the magical lamp, Aladdin’s journey will sweep you into an exotic world full of daring adventure, enchanting spells, unbelievable riches, treachery and of course true love.
