Ruth Fielding from Bexhill suffered with painful acne, before discovering microdermabrasion which helped clear her skin – she’s since retrained as a beauty therapist to help others affected by the skin condition
A former merchandiser from Bexhill has put her personal experience with acne to good use after retraining as a beauty therapist and helping a host of local women and men improve the condition of their skin.
Ruth Fielding, 45, now runs The Blissful Beauty Company, a mobile service which provides the latest in SkinBase microdermabrasion technology and treatments. Since starting her company three years ago, Ruth has gone on to treat people from all over East Sussex and says many clients say she has improved their lives for the better.
For Ruth, her journey began 20 years ago when she was a teen and suffered with painful acne across her face and back. After trying many different treatments and medications over the course of several years, she was recommended a course of microdermabrasion – a pain free, non-invasive treatment which exfoliates and resurfaces the skin.
Ruth said: “For me, microdermabrasion changed my life. Not only did it drastically improve my skin and give me my confidence back, which was at an all-time low in my 20s, but it also became my chosen career path when I was made redundant from my role at the local newspaper.
“Whilst many of my colleagues chose to stay in the field of sales and media, I’d had such a positive experience with microdermabrasion that I chose to retrain as a beauty therapist and invest my time and energy into helping other people.
“I really wanted to offer a service that could benefit people whose lives had also been affected by a skin condition. I’m in my 40’s now and have the ability to relate to my clients, instantly putting them at ease. I understand it can be embarrassing having acne as you feel like people are constantly looking at your skin, so even if a client feels incredibly self-conscious, I’m able to relax them and share my own experiences with microdermabrasion, and clients really value that first-hand experience.”
SkinBase microdermabrasion is currently the leading skincare treatment in the UK & Ireland. The controlled treatment intensely exfoliates and resurfaces the skin, using a fine jet of abrasive crystals, which gently remove dead skin cells layer by layer. A vacuum action then lifts away the debris, stimulating the blood flow and encouraging collagen and elastin formation.
Ruth continued: “Recently, I helped a young woman who was reluctant to begin a course of Roaccutane – a medication which had been prescribed by her doctor. The side effects of this particular medication are numerous and for some patients can be quite serious, including regular blood tests, as the kidneys are affected.
“Before starting the course, she visited me, and we began using the SkinBase Microdermabrasion treatment. After only two sessions, she saw a noticeable difference and she has now decided to decline the use of medication. It’s further proof to me that microdermabrasion really does change lives – I was proof of that and now my clients are too.”
The Blissful Beauty Company operates throughout East Sussex and is open most evenings until 8pm. Ruth uses SkinBase products to provide chemical free and non-invasive microdermabrasion treatments. Microdermabrasion treats a variety of skin related problems including acne and acne scarring, dull and tired skin, pigmentation, blemishes and the effects of ageing skin.
