Brighton-based tech initiative goes live for 10 hours to raise money for NHS

On Thursday 7 May 2020, more than 40 of Brighton’s brightest speakers are coming together to raise much-needed cash for Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS charitable funds.

Silicon Brighton – an initiative that brings together technical individuals and experts to collaborate – is taking its event online for 10 hours, with speakers covering a vast range of current topics for business leaders, technical professionals, start-ups, students and just about anyone else interested in tech.

Streamed on the Silicon Brighton YouTube channel, speakers include Bruno Saltor Grau, previous Brighton & Hove Albion Football Captain, Duncan Campbell, Portfolio Manager at Gatwick Airport and Stuart McSkimming, CIO of The Royal British Legion.

Having already raised 39% over its original £1,000 target, the team behind Silicon Brighton now hopes to raise £5,000 through donations.

Steve Rackley, Founder of Silicon Brighton said: “Thank you to everyone who has donated so far. Now more than ever, the NHS is going above and beyond to ensure the safety and well-being of our communities, which is why we’re donating all proceeds from our ticket sales to Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS charitable funds.

“We’re looking forward to our biggest event yet and we hope you can join us whilst we all stay at home.”

The full day event will be live streamed on YouTube and will cover a vast range of topics including engaging the modern workforce, virtual reality and augmented reality, artificial intelligence and data science.

Streaming starts at 10am and people can join for as much or as little as they’d like. The full line-up of speakers can be found here.
