This Sunday 14th June a short ceremony will be held near the Martello Tower in honour of Sussex Day.
At 12pm sharp Seaford Town Crier Peter White will cry a Seaford-version of a Sussex Day Cry which will include reference to the Magna Carta anniversary.
The Deputy Mayor of Seaford Councillor Rahnuma Hayder will then raise the Sussex flag and also those who attend will be encourage to sing along to “Sussex by the Sea”.
Refreshments will follow, generously provided by the Seaford Lifeguards.
Sussex Day is the county day for the historic county of Sussex in southern England. The actual Sussex Day is celebrated on 16 June each year to celebrate the rich heritage and culture of Sussex.
The event takes place on St Richard’s Day. The date marks the anniversary of the translation of St Richard’s body from its original burial place in the nave of Chichester Cathedral to an elaborate shrine at the Cathedral on 16 June 1276.
