Chance for Sussex patients to nominate outstanding staff for annual hospital awards

Have you been a patient or visitor at the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead in the last year and received treatment or support from an outstanding member of staff? If so the hospital wants to hear from you.

Queen Victoria Hospital is launching its annual hunt for a worthy winner (or winners) of its outstanding patient experience award and needs the public to get involved. The hospital wants to hear about staff who have shown exceptional care and compassion – whether it’s the person who helped book your appointment, or served you a cuppa in the canteen, through to the nurse, therapist or doctor who cared for you. As a specialist centre, Queen Victoria Hospital sees thousands of patients from Sussex every year and would encourage anyone who’s had a really positive experience thanks to its staff, to get in touch.

It only takes a minute to nominate a member of staff via a quick online form – if you can’t remember the full name of the person you want to choose please give as much detail as you can – what they looked like, their job etc. Nominations can be made online at www.qvh.nhs.uk or by calling the corporate affairs team on 01342 414508 for a form. The deadline is Monday 20 August 2018.

Chief Executive Steve Jenkin said: “We are proud of the care and compassion that our hospital is renowned for. The outstanding patient experience award is an opportunity for us to recognise and thank members of our staff that go the extra mile, and is particularly special as nominations come from the public. It means a lot to the staff who are nominated to know that their work has made a real difference to the patients and visitors they care for.”

Last year the hospital had joint winners for its award – Consultant Plastic Surgeon, Tania Cubison, and Staff Nurse, Lorraine Loosley.

Tania’s nominee said she had “changed my life” following an operation at the hospital, “she put me at ease and was very accommodating. She had an excellent bedside manner, always with a smile on her face.” Whilst Lorraine was described by her nominee as “my real life Florence Nightingale” after the care and treatment she gave a patient in the hospital’s dressing clinic.

Previous winners of the patient experience award include:

  • Nurse Nazli Chase who was nominated because “The way she took the time to comfort and reassure me was really touching.”
  • Corneoplastics consultant Mr Samer Hamada who was described as “our knight in shining armour”…who always gives better care and attention than expected, was nominated by parents of a young patient he had treated for more than three years.

This year’s QVH Staff Awards are being kindly supported by the QVH Charity.
