This June, one showjumping fan will be given the honour of presenting the famous Boomerang trophy to the winner of the Equestrian.com Derby.
The All England Jumping Course and new sponsor Equestrian.com have teamed up to offer this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to a member of the Hickstead Derby Community, to enable them to be part of this special event.
The competition is open to everyone who buys the official Equestrian.com Derby polo shirt. This automatically gives them membership of the Hickstead Derby Community, which aims to bring together the wider equestrian community so that a team of showjumping supporters can share in the experience of the Equestrian.com Hickstead Derby and be part of its success.
As well as the chance to present the trophy to the winner of the Derby, live on Sky Sports, the prize also includes a VIP weekend break to Hickstead for the winner and a friend, including accommodation at the Arora Hotel, plus members’ tickets and lunch at the All England Jumping Course on both Saturday and Sunday. The prize winner will also have a tour of the Sky Sports’ live production suite.
The iconic Boomerang trophy is named after Eddie Macken’s famous horse, who won the Derby every year from 1976 to 1979. It depicts the pair going down the 10ft 6in slope of the Derby bank, and was sculpted by Emma McDermott, to replace the gold trophy which Eddie won outright after his record fourth consecutive win.
Last year the class was won by Phillip Miller, who was presented with the trophy by one of the most famous Derby winners of all – the great Harvey Smith.
Held as part of the Equestrian.com Hickstead Derby Meeting (26-29 June), the Equestrian.com Derby takes place on the final Sunday. Now in its 54th year, the famous course remains as difficult as ever, and clear rounds are a rarity.
