Arun District Council staff were among those who completed the Virgin Money London Marathon.
Post Room Assistant Adam Stephens ran a faster time than double Olympic Champion Dame Kelly Homes, completing the 26 miles in three hours and three minutes.
Adam first started running for Worthing District Harriers when they asked if he would be interested in joining them.
He has since run four London Marathons, two Brighton Marathons, the Berlin Marathon, the New York Marathon, the Amsterdam Marathon and the Edinburgh Marathon.
Whilst Adam didn’t run on behalf of a charity this time, he previously fundraised for St Barnabas House Hospice, which is a charity close to his heart as his father was treated there for cancer.
Finishing the London Marathon was extra special for Internal Auditor Dan Hughes.
The 37-year-old from Littlehampton had a small tear in his patella tendon last year meaning he couldn’t compete in the race.
One year on and he finished his first marathon in four hours 27 minutes, raising more than £2,000 for Guide Dogs.
He said: “My grandfather was blind which is why I chose to run the marathon for Guide Dogs. It felt brilliant finishing the race and I was relieved as well, especially after what happened last year.”
Tom Howell, Arun Wellbeing Activity Coordinator, from Elmer Sands, also completed his first London Marathon.
He finished the event in four hours and 11 minutes and raised £750 for Bognor Housing Trust.
“I have always enjoyed running and felt this was the ultimate challenge to try and push myself to do something truly challenging.
“I was exhausted when I finished the marathon but had such a great sense of achievement; the crowd was phenomenal and helped me out tremendously. The whole occasion gave me a great appreciation for community and support,” Tom said.
Councillor Paul Wotherspoon, Cabinet Member for Community Services at Arun District Council, said: “I would like to congratulate everyone from the Arun District who

“Even if you don’t think you could run a marathon, if you have been inspired to think about getting more active, why not find out about Arun Wellbeing’s activity classes for beginners?”
