DO YOU HAVE A DESIRE TO SERVE?

Often people have an inclination to help others. Helping others is always in style. We are God’s helpers. It helps us grow into a better person on our journey in life. Knowing more about assisting others can bring even bigger happiness and rewards.

Passing on newfound knowledge and assistance is a form of sharing. When you have grown beyond past wants and needs meeting earlier life challenges, it is commendable because you are no longer coming from old ideas that did not work. This promotes new ways to resolve life’s lessons. Passing them on to others brings new insights about life.

We call it paying it forward. Pay it forward is an expression for describing the beneficiary of a good deed repaying the kindness to others instead of to the original benefactor. The concept is old, but the actual phrase may have been coined by Lily Hardy Hammond in her 1916 book, In the Garden of Delight.

It is basic to help ourselves first. It is like the message heard on an airplane. Put on your oxygen mask before you help others. You cannot confer what you do not have. When you come from heartfelt compassion, then your assistance is real. Therefore, it is beneficial to the person you are assisting. Really, since we are all one in spirit, you are giving to yourself at the same time.

Freedom from the ego is the objective of our life journey. Self-improvement is always doable. Moving beyond past issues, trauma, or difficulties is to be applauded. It is a real accomplishment. An inner house cleaning is not easy, but worth the effort to be free from the triggers in the past or information that was not productive, that stop your being current in your life.

Releasing our past ideas that did not work, is a goal for growing into maturity. With your higher realization, it is possible to assist others in their challenges having a better opportunity for success. Passing on this wisdom, helps us all. My book, “Paradigm Busters” at Amazon, has the details of how to clear out your old baggage of emotional connections that keep you from being current in your life.

With new understanding, positive energies are free to bring affirmative outcomes. Sharing magnifies the energy into feeling good. Your new foundation into being a love-based person contributes to the total planet consciousness. That is because when we are most balanced and peaceful our intuition is able to guide our progress and results. All things work for good, when you love your Creator and are on His path. In addition, your self worth increases. What a concept.

Knowing life is about cause and effect provides the answers. Being in service to others, your good energy is expanded, promoting enhanced results. What you focus on grows. When you have put yourself into being at cause the effect will be an extension of that. Therefore, your efforts for being in service with the right motivation, expands into productive outcomes.

Some people may say that I have nothing to share with another. Maybe you are not in a financial way to send money to a worthy cause, or physically able to help a person move, attend a meeting for community planning, or serve in a leadership role. That does not mean you cannot be of service. The best part of being in service is that you have to give it away to keep it. You give your good will and get the return of feeling good. The more your give the better you feel. God is flowing through you.

Simple and least expensive ways are to smile to another as you walk down the street. Hold the door for a person with a cane, or pump the gas into a car for a disabled person. At the end of the month, I was without any cash, but I offered to take a woman to the food bank for groceries for her family, as I did have a tank full of gas.

A few weeks ago, I needed someone to drive me for a doctor’s appointment as I had a stroke and totaled my car as I was driving. I was in too much stress to get myself to wound care. It was not easy for me to ask for assistance. However, the person had offered earlier to help if she could. Reluctantly, I picked up the phone. She quickly showed up and I got to my appointment and back home. As I was feeling guilty, someone pointed out that for all the rides I had given people, this was my gift back. I realized there is a gift in giving and receiving.

I have learned how to be less selfish and self-centered by being in service. I do service work as I enjoy it; I do not expect any return. My thinking today is how I can be helpful.

I was not raised to be in service I was a shy, scarred youngster not knowing how to grow up. Today I am able to jump in and help where it is needed. Today, I walked through the door of a meeting and the person planning to chair the meeting got sick at the last moment. Quickly she pulled me aside and said I needed to chair. At that time, I did not know it was because she had become suddenly, violently ill. I quickly conducted the meeting without any questions.

After the meeting, a person visited with me and said that he had come to thank me for the support and encouragement from a talk we had months earlier. I felt connected to the person in spirit while we chatted. I like being part of humanity. I had shared my experience, strength and hope from my similar challenges. Today I showed up, participated, and received a nice complement. My life of service has brought me validation and acceptance I never had before. I feel the love of God passing through to those I help. Service makes me feel like life is worthwhile. We are all one in love.
