East Sussex Start-Up Supports Local Charity

With over 50% of charities* reporting that donations are down significantly due to the pressures and fundraising limitations of COVID-19, a Lewes-based biodegradable wipe company; SwetWipes Ltd, has formed a partnership with local charity – The Bevern Trust – to provide some support to their residents during these challenging times with regular donations of free wipes.

SwetWipes are a rapidly growing personal hygiene company providing extra-large, biodegradable and antibacterial wipes with a coconut scent, for use whenever it’s difficult or impossible to shower.

With a fast-growing customer base of elderly people, disabled users and their carers’, the company wanted to show its support of a local organisation who may also benefit from their antibacterial wipes but may not have the funds to purchase them.

For many disabled people across the country, something as routine as a bath or shower can be a daunting task for them and/or their carers, which can leave both fearful of falls or requiring energy and mobility they don’t have, just to manoeuvre in and out of the bathroom. A body hygiene wipe helps to reduce this risk, and more importantly provides instant cleansing by removing odours, bacteria and dirt.

Eastbourne resident, Liz Barnes (pictured above) is delighted with the opportunity to support such a worthwhile charity. Liz, the Managing Director of SwetWipes explained “We wanted to donate some of our wipes to a local charity that would otherwise have to spend a considerable amount of their fundraising buying these frequently used items.  Many care-based charities have to rely on buying the most affordable wipes on the market which are often made from plastic and can take up to 100 years to decompose.  With our extra-large, plant-based, biodegradable wipes we hope that we can help The Bevern Trust’s residents stay clean and fresh, whilst at the same time, leaving a more positive impact on the environment.”

As a new online company with thousands of disabled customers, we quickly realised the enormous positive difference our anti-bacterial wipes were having on our customers – particularly those who care for others – enabling them to wash them and remove odour when otherwise they would find this a difficult and challenging task.”

The Bevern Trust’s Operations Manager Alice Fry says:

“As a Charity providing round the clock care to 11 young adults with profound disabilities we rely heavily on donations and fundraising from the local community in order to give our residents more from life.   We are conscious of our plastic usage but it’s difficult for us to source affordable, biodegradable products.  We’re looking forward to trying out SwetWipes with our residents and reducing our plastic waste.”
