Five years on a bicycle

Sussex resident Tristan Ridley is to set off next month to continue a 100,000 kilometre bicycle expedition for a local charity, Build Africa. Solo, self-funded, and surviving on a budget of just £5 per day, Tristan (27), will be on the road for more than 5 years and will be cycling through more than 100 countries on six continents.

Tristan’s journey is raising money for Build Africa, a charity which works with disadvantaged children in Kenya and Uganda, empowering communities and using education to fight inequality. Tristan says: “Having travelled through some of the poorest parts of the world already, I have seen first-hand how heartbreaking it is to be stuck in the cycle of poverty. So many people never get a fair chance at life; I’m riding for Build Africa because they help give people that chance.”

Having already cycled 25,000 kilometres from New Zealand to England in 2016, and having spent the last year working to save up, Tristan will be departing once again on 9th April to cycle through Europe and Africa as part of his ‘no-fly, bike and boat only’ route around the world. By the time he has finished his journey, Tristan will have pedalled the equivalent of more than three times around the planet.
