Fresher fundraising and falling at floor 1.

Utterly disorientated, clarity slipping from me, efforts to keep my breathing slow and regulated, as recommended, while my heart pounds in state of panic and absolute surety that I am not going to make it. I’m not well hydrated for this: last night’s antics partying until 4am has left me parched and gasping for water, such a rookie mistake. I suppose I haven’t eaten well either, that doesn’t help, there is not much food here. Portions are frugal and hardly palatable. I haven’t acclimatised myself enough, it’s all going wrong and I fear I am just not equipped for this. The odds are against me…

And that’s merely ‘walking’ up the flights of stairs in my university halls. (Using the word ‘walking’ in the loosest term!) That’s right, I have landed as a Fresher at Bournemouth University, with new hurdles of work, partying, more work, more partying, and no sleep. Perhaps this is why the simple task of getting up to my flat on floor 1 of halls can seem more than tricky at times! But now, I face the real uphill struggle: Trekking to Machu Picchu- one of the Seven Wonders of the World!

As part of the RAG (raising and giving) society at my uni, I have signed up to raise £3000 for AICR- the Association for International Cancer Research, trekking to Machu Picchu in August 2014 in aid of this. I have got until then to raise this great amount in hope to make a difference and help the outstanding work that goes on with this charity. Of course, as you can tell, fundraising is not my only concern! Do not fear, I have joined the gym so I shall be fit for the 6 day trek. I just have to keep committed: everyone knows how hard it is to stay motivated when it comes to trudging heavily on treadmills and breaking a sweat on the cycling machines… But I am determine to do this, for the AICR charity.

The Association for International Cancer Research (AICR) is the only charity in the world that supports fundamental cancer research, of any type, anywhere on the planet. Donations only go to the best research scientists, performing the best science, regardless of where they are located. So please help me in my attempt to fundraise and cross the Peruvian Andes, through humid jungle trails and bustling colonial mountain towns in search of Machu Picchu: the lost city of the Inca: all in aid of a fantastic cause.

Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means so much!
