Funding boost from Chanctonbury County Local Committee

Villagers in Ashurst will soon be treading the boards thanks to a grant from West Sussex County Council’s Chanctonbury County Local Committee.

The committee has approved £1,250 towards a new multi-purpose stage area in the new Ashurst Village Hall for community events and performances.

The decision was taken at a recent meeting of the committee held at Partridge Green Village Hall.

Also benefiting from the Community Initiative Funding was the Amberley Museum & Heritage Centre, which received £900 towards the purchase of equipment for a new initiative aimed at pre-school children.

The Early Years Backpack Trail will be aimed at families with children aged between two and four and will highlight 10 points of interest around the museum where children can explore exhibits with hands-on activities.

The grant will be used to buy backpacks which will be lent to children during their visit containing items such as a wind-up torch and a magnifying glass.

The committee also awarded £1,000 funding to Washington Village Memorial Hall towards internal decorations and £500 to Thakeham Parish Council towards the restoration of the village War Memorial.

Chairman of the committee David Barling said: “We are pleased to be able to help these various groups and organisations with these worthwhile projects and improvements, which we know will have a really positive impact on many local people.”
