With summer holidays set to go ahead in 2022, it’s time to get glowing for the summer season we’ve all been waiting for. That’s why Efamol® has teamed up with celebrity skincare expert Louise Thomas-Minns who reveals her top five tips for healthy-looking, summer skin.
Louise comments, “Many of us haven’t been able to go abroad for the past couple of years due to the pandemic, so this will be the first time exposing your skin to those really hot rays of sunshine for many people. Here are my tips for looking after your skin as you head off into the heat.”
- ALL about the SPF! Although we should consider a level of UV protection all year round, the summer months are when we need to ramp this up. Ensure you are using a broad-spectrum sunscreen that will protect you not just from UVB but also UVA and apply it liberally, evenly and regularly. Wearing hats, sunglasses and seeking out the shade are also, really important.
- LAYER YOUR hydration! Use hyaluronic based serums, essences, spritzes to layer up moisture in the summer months. You may find you reach for lighter, water-based products if it’s a high humidity, but you still need to keep the skin well-nourished and build up a protective barrier.
- EAT THE Rainbow. There are some positive studies around eating foods that are rich in flavonols and lycopene, brightly coloured fruit and vegetables are the best source. Think cooked tomatoes, green tea and dark chocolate.
- CALM DOWN the exfoliation. Let your skin build its protective armour of ‘dead’ cells. Now is not the best time to head for deep peeling treatments.
- KEEP MAKE-UP to a minimum. When your skin is warm the pores will open more to excrete sweat and secrete oil. Make up will find its way into the skin more easily and could cause outbreaks and/or irritation.
