Local running group, goodgym, has been carrying out community work at the front of Splashpoint Leisure Centre.
Volunteers from the community running group have prepped and sowed the flower beds at the front of the leisure complex over 2 sessions on Monday 8th and 15th May. Over the 2 sessions, the group worked to sow the beds before heading off for fitness sessions and a beach run, all under the tutelage of a running coach. The plan for the flower beds is to have a wash of colourful flowers blooming during July, replacing the bamboo plants that were planted before the centre opened over 4 years ago, as they really needed replacing.
South Downs Leisure’s CEO, Duncan Anderson, commented: “We are working with goodgym and Worthing Borough Council to deliver community projects that improve and support our wildlife and the environment we live in. The new flowers will look beautiful when in bloom and we thank the team of volunteers at goodgym for their hard work throughout.”
Goodgym is a community of runners that combine getting fit with doing good in Worthing. From hanging curtains for Mr H because he can’t manage it on his own, to shoveling a tonne of compost for the Food Growers Group so they can provide facilities and training for locals to grow vegetables – every GoodGym run is different.
Julia Gleason, who is the running trainer for goodgym in Worthing, went on to say: “I love the concept of getting physically and mentally fit whilst combining it with helping others. Personally, I run 3 times a week, but you can commit to as little or as much time as you wish; come along and get fit by doing good.”
