Arun District Council is asking the public to help shape where homes and businesses could be built as it starts its Local Plan consultation stage on possible sites for the future.
A database of land which is potentially suitable for development is kept by the Council, and Arun is seeking the public’s assistance to check if the information contained is up-to-date or if there is additional data that could be added.
People can have their say by completing two questionnaires which are available on the Council’s website.
The questionnaires ask for comments about land which could be developed. There is a document which explains the whole process and notes which provide useful information that should be read before completing the questionnaires.
The database forms part of the evidence which the Council has to provide as part of the examination of the current Arun Local Plan work, which is testing whether the Arun District can accommodate up to 845 homes per year until 2031, as recommended by the Planning Inspector. Potential new sites are assessed each year by the Council, the results of which are considered by the Council’s Local Plan Subcommittee.
Councillor Ricky Bower, Cabinet Member for Planning and Infrastructure at Arun District Council, said: “If you have an interest in a specific area or have detailed knowledge of a particular part of the District, the Council would like to receive your feedback.
“The Council would especially like to know if the information included in the database is correct and if there are details which are missing which could be included. It must be emphasised that the information used for this database will not in itself determine whether a site should be allocated for development in the Local Plan or should automatically receive planning permission.”
The consultation runs from Tuesday, 3 May until Tuesday, 31 May.
Completed questionnaires can be submitted by email to localplan@arun.gov.uk or by post to: Planning Policy and Strategic Development, Arun District Council, Arun Civic Centre, Maltravers Road, Littlehampton, West Sussex, BN17 5LF.
