Hormonal Journey of a Mumpreneur –
Keeping your cool this summer.
Lorna Ive
July is already upon us and that means it’s summertime! School holidays, strawberries and Wimbledon. Not forgetting the incredible football, come on England!
As well as a milestone birthday celebration for both myself and my Husband this month.
How did that arrive?
Lorna’s top tips for keeping your cool through the summer holidays, running a business and keeping sane.
I am here to help you through the summer holidays with my advice and experience to help you keep cool with hormones, run a business and enjoy the summer holidays.
Flexibility is key!
How flexible are you? Running a business during the school holidays requires flexibility from yourself, your partner and from the children.By setting boundaries this provides a set of rules and offers clear communication to all the family. Factor in working hours and downtime.
Supporting you to create working time and when not to be disturbed. Clearly showing when you are available to have some downtime and fun. You could try to switch your working hours around the day, if you have younger children perhaps the evening would be better for you. Ask your partner to support you. Perhaps an early morning would be easier if your children are older and you can work somewhere central in the house.
R and R.
Next on the agenda is to ensure a rest, relaxation and a self care balance. Make each Sunday morning a family time to discuss topics, issues and plan. Delegate, tick and bin tasks for the week ahead.
Each family member gets to choose an activity, ie, a day out, picnic or a trip to the beach. Schedule these ideas into the week so that everyone feels they have been listened to and that you are making quality family time together.
It is so important to plan ahead when running a business it can become all encompassing.Take some rest and recharge so your creative and business energy can inject ideas and enthusiasm. If you are experiencing the hormonal highway of perimenopause, time to recharge is vital. Plan a short break in the UK. A change of scene will help you to unwind, recharge and digitally recharge! Turn off your phones, emails and no scrolling! What is your R and R for this summer?
Health is your wealth.
I cannot stress how important making time for exercise and self care is, during perimenopause and menopause. At times you may not feel the energy to exercise, trust me when I say from experience it really does help. Exercise lifts your mood, boosts your self esteem and your body will thank you for it!
Start with a gentle walk and increase exercise slowly. Scheduling in time for exercise is a necessity, helping to reduce stress, manage hormones and importantly be good for your heart health and to lose weight. Exercising also supports and builds bone health to prevent osteoporosis.
Injecting some fun into the holidays is not only good for the children but for you too.
What fires your belly, what interests you? This could be a trip to the hairdressers, beauty salon, an exhibition or meet up with a friend to relax and unwind. You will be nourishing yourself with self care and enjoyment. This is a vital selfcare priority as perimenopause and menopause can bring symptoms of low mood, fatigue and low self esteem.
To combat this I found by making my self care a priority and creating some fun time for myself it really helped to lift these feelings. Who doesn’t love having their hair and nails done?
Happy hormones and a happy you!
Stick to a routine for work and fun. Selfcare is time to pamper yourself! Keep a daily journal, write down what you are grateful and appreciative for. Get outside in nature and breathe in the fresh air.
Aim for eight hours of sleep a night. Turn off your phone from 7pm till 8am. Digital Detox.
Keep hydrated and have iced cold water close to hand for those hot flushes. Eating a healthy and varied diet is essential. Avoiding alcohol and sugar will help you through stages of menopause. Try various forms of exercise and keep to it! Your bones will be grateful.Track your hormone symptoms and cycle, a great prompt to discuss treatment with perimenopause and menopause. Affirmations – are the best way to keep motivated and inspired! Enjoy the holidays and why not share your summer holiday highlights with us here at TSN.
