As research from the Trussell Trust reveals that they will need to provide an emergency food package every 10 seconds to meet demand this winter*, East Sussex housebuilder David Wilson Homes is helping to end hunger during lockdown by making a £1000 donation to the charity. The funds will be split across the Trussell Trust foodbanks in Eastbourne and Bexhill, where the housebuilder is building new homes.
The foodbanks provide a minimum of three days’ worth (equivalent to 10 meals) of nutritionally balanced emergency food to individuals in crisis. The donation from David Wilson Homes will help the foodbanks to purchase much needed supplies, including tinned food, fruit and vegetables, rice, bread, and more, preventing members of the local community from going hungry during lockdown this winter. Individuals in crisis can be referred for support from the Trussell Trust by a care professional, social worker, or the police, where they will be issued a redeemable voucher for emergency food.
Natalie Perry, Sales and Marketing Director at David Wilson Homes, said: “Many individuals and families are hit hardest with food poverty during the winter months, and during the Covid-19 pandemic those numbers are set to rise. We believe the nobody should go hungry, which is why we are proud to support the Trussell Trust in East Sussex.”
Howard Wardle, spokesperson for the Trussell Trust, comments: “We greatly value the support of local business in helping us provide food for many vulnerable people as we approach Christmas. We would like to thank David Wilson Homes for its generous donation, which will go a long way to support those that need our help the most.”
David Wilson Homes is building brand new homes at its Meadowburne Place development in Eastbourne, and its Rosewood Park development in Bexhill. To find out more, call 0333 355 8503 or visit www.dwh.co.uk.
