We live in the world of digital socialising. It’s great to be able to communicate with people you don’t see very often, maybe relatives in Australia (as I have), so generally I see it as a positive thing. I say this, however there is a big BUT…
Recently I have found there are negative, huge black hole sized pit falls to social media. I’m talking about the odd friend who is obsessed by, no I can’t even type it, let alone say it, Christmas (aaarrghhh). I am not a Christmas hater, I love Christmas, what I don’t love is my news feed being bombarded with it’s so many sleeps ‘til Christmas before I’ve even got Halloween and Guy Fawkes night out of the way. One thing I love about the autumn and winter is the fact that it’s broken up by these festivals with bonfires, fireworks etc.
All I’m asking is please, please can there be a law against people talking about it, posting about it, advertising it, shopping for it and blasting other with their cute pictures of Santa etc before at least the 1st of December. I implore you, don’t drag it out, we all know what happens, Christmas saturates our lives, we spend loads of money on presents (that after Christmas are on sale for half price – but that’s another story)then get to boxing day and think What was all that fuss about?
I’m going to sound like the Grinch here but we all know the kids are going to argue about having green vegetables on their plate at Christmas dinner, Grandad will fall asleep with his head in the pudding; we’ll all eat so much we won’t be able to move. In addition, to top it off there’s all the clearing up after. On that note, I have to go, got online Christmas shopping to do…..
