International Crime Writer to Visit Crawley School

A novel approach to literacy is being staged at Hazelwick School – and it would be a crime to miss it!

Staff, sixth form students, parents and Crawley residents are invited to join award-winning adult crime writer Roger Ellory (RJ Ellory) for a talk about being an author, a book signing and to answer any questions on 14th November.

Ann Fearon, Headteacher at Hazelwick School, said “Literacy is a key part of education and we are working hard with our students to promote literacy and reading in general. We have a new initiative for students in Year 7 called Accelerated Reader which focuses on reading and comprehension. It has raised the profile of reading and literacy amongst our younger students and has proved both popular and effective.

“In line with our drive to continue to improve literacy even further, we have a range of initiatives and we are very pleased to be hosting an event for the wider community here at Hazelwick.”

The event offers the opportunity for staff and sixth form students to hear from a successful author in their own school, added Ms Fearon.

Tickets cost £3 each and are available from Hazelwick School reception, or through the school’s online payment system for current parents. It includes wine and light refreshments and starts at 7pm at the school.

Described as “one of the great British thriller writers of his generation”, some of Roger Ellory’s works include ‘A Quiet Belief in Angels’ and ‘The Devil and The River’.
